Hip hop artist Mikey Grey on the up and up

Michael Mothiba, better known as Mikey Grey, is a 22-year-old from Lethuli Park who plans to change take the hip hop music scene in Polokwane by storm.

POLOKWANE – Mothiba is an educator at Unisa and works part-time at fast food restaurants where he says he is ‘pushing time’.

“Growing up I have always loved music, hip hop to be specific. I have never taken music seriously before this year, however. It was only after I met Victor Owaade I began to focus more on my music career as he helped me to take my music career to a higher level. I am currently working on a mixtape titled Seventeen after I was inspired by my own experiences and my life taking a whole new turn this year in terms of my music career. On this mixtape I speak about the challenges I have faced as a hip hop artist to how my fan base and my brand as Mikey Grey has grown. I talk about my music journey from where I started to where I am now,” he explained.

Having produced singles such as What we do, Flow Bawlin and Prospect, Mikey Grey said residents of Polokwane can look forward to what is to come with the drop of his mixtape.

“Hip hop in Polokwane is not as big and happening as it is in other cities such as Pretoria and Johannesburg but I plan to change that because the truth is we have pure genuine talent in the city but lack opportunities and platforms to showcase our work and creativity. Production companies such Start Promotions are there for local artists and creatives in Limpopo, however. They help us to push our brands and circulate our work throughout the province. We can expect great things from the talented artists in Limpopo,” he said.
