Horrific accident claims five lives

A fatal collision between a bakkie and truck on the R521 from Mogwadi claimed the lives of five persons this morning (Saturday). Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said the persons travelling in the double cab bakkie had burnt beyond recognition while the driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital. He also said Police in Westenburg are investigating a case of culpable homicide. Ngoepe further said the identity of the deceased will be determined by DNA tests and that neither gender, race or age could be determined yet.
Polokwane Observer was on the scene and according to bystanders truck drivers and other motorists had tried in vain to extinguish the fire before the fire brigade turned up. Read the full story in next week’s Polokwane Observer.
