A shutdown of both the Ebenezer and Olifantspoort water plants earlier this morning (Wednesday) may result in water shortages and low pressure in some parts of the city for approximately eight hours.
Matshidiso Mothapo, Communications and Marketing Manager of the municipality, said in a media release that Lepelle Northern Water advised the municipality earlier this morning that a major pipe leak occurred in the Ebenezer pipe line, necessitating a shutdown of the plant. “This shutdown will affect all areas supplied from Ebenezer like Mamabolo, Mankweng and the city reservoirs and it may take up to eight hours to repair the leak,” Mothapo said.
Mothapo also reported that one of the pump stations from the Olifantspoort plant is off due to an electricity cut and confirmed that the matter is receiving attention. “This may affect the Seshego area and lower areas of Polokwane as they are currently being supplied with water through the Penina Park off-take,” Mothapo added.
Mothapo advised residents to use water sparingly to avoid a negative or adverse impact on water levels and assured that Lepelle Northern Water is doing all that is possible to have the repairs completed as soon as possible.
