Six people died in two separate accidents which occurred on the N1 South just outside Polokwane on Saturday and on the R555 between Burgersfort and Ohrigstad this morning (Monday) respectively.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said two vehicles collided on the N1 South just outside Polokwane at around 22:00. One of the vehicles caught fire and two people burnt to death while two others sustained serious injuries, Ngoepe said, adding that the deceased will be identified through DNA tests. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
In the second incident this morning (Monday) a bakkie transporting 11 people overturned killing four and seven seriously injured. The vehicle was travelling from Bushbuckridge to Podungwane outside Lebowakgomo when the driver allegedly lost control of the bakkie and overturn. One of the injured also had to be cut from the wreckage, according to Ngoepe.
Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide in both accidents.
