POLOKWANE – Blackberry 10 users will be given until the end of the year to use the popular text messaging app.
Following a warning last year that Whatsapp would no longer work on certain devices because their operating systems could no longer support the new characteristics of the app, WhatsApp has confirmed it will extend support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40, and Nokia Symbian S60 until 31 December 2017.
“Until then, we support any BlackBerry 10 device that has Software Release 10.0.10.82 or later, otherwise known as BB OS Version 10.0.10.648,” Whatsapp said on their website.
Nokia S40 devices will be supported until the end of 2018.
Windows Phone devices older than and including Windows Phone 8 will not be supported beyond the end of 2017.
For other devices, the following cut off dates have been set:
- Nokia Symbian S60 – 30 June 2017
- Nokia S40 – 31 December 2018
- BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 – 31 December 2017
- Windows Phone 8.0 and older – 31 December 2017
- Android versions 2.3.7 and older – 1 February 2020
