Prominent local lawyer Tumi Mokoena will remain behind bars until Tuesday after his bail application was postponed in the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court earlier today (Friday).
Mokoena appeared on four charges of attempted murder.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said Mokoena’s bail application is expected to be finalised on Tuesday.
The case follows an alleged shooting incident at Zebediela Citrus Estate early yesterday, reportedly leaving four people injured.
Ngoepe said Mokoena was traced and arrested at his office in Polokwane late yesterday afternoon. A firearm was also confiscated.
It is alleged that Mokoena had a meeting with some of the employees at the estate, during which conflict ensued and he subsequently produced a firearm and shot four of the employees before fleeing the scene in his vehicle, according to Ngoepe.
The victims, one of them seriously injured, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after receiving first aid from a local clinic, Ngoepe said. It is believed that the four victims are still recuperating in hospital.
Mokoena is known for defending and representing prominent personalities.
