A new meaning to ‘food on the go’

Five local women are the proud inventors of the 'Awesome Bag' which keeps food warm when traveling.

POLOKWANE – Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could arrive at your destination with your food warm?

This not only saves you time and electricity, it is also safer for the environment and children.

Several young women had the idea to make bags which will not only make travelling convenient but it also helps grow the local economy.

Emily Mamabolo (23), Suzan Mamabolo (32), Naomi Mashishi (31), Mmabatho Molapo (30) and Rosina Rapetsoa (28) are the creators of the Awesome Bag of which they have sold more than 325 thus far.

They explained to BONUS how their Awesome Bags work.

“The Awesome Bag’s purpose is to keep food warm which is ideally suited when you want to cook and travel as you can cook your meals at home inside the steel pots before you leave. When your food starts to boil, take the pot off the stove and put the pot inside the Awesome Bag and seal it, now you’re ready to hit the road. The pot will keep the food inside the bag warm while you travel to your destination. When you arrive it is ready to be served and doesn’t need to be warmed,” Suzan explained.

These bags are designed to keep food warm on long trips to save electricity and time.

“The bag is convenient because it saves money by keeping the food warm so you don’t have to buy a lot of electricity. It is also safe to use around children as it keeps the hot pot insulated. By keeping the pot warm it also reduces the smoke or fumes produced when reheating.” Awesome Bags are not the only items these talented women plan to make and sell, they have their sights set on several technologies which will help make people’s lives easier. They aim to empower businesswomen and plan on making 2 400 Awesome Bags over the next two years.

Emily and Suzan reside in Ga-Mokgopo, Naomi stays in Solomondale, Mmabatho resides in Sebayeng and Rosina is from Madiga.

“We received training at a skills and handwork college in Johannesburg and decided to bring our knowledge and skills back home,” Emily said.

“So far we have sold about 325 Awesome Bags in Polokwane and the demand is steadily growing which gives us great pride,” Mmabatho added.
