POLOKWANE – Who didn’t love a peanut butter sandwich growing up? Not to mention peanut butter milkshakes and delectable peanut butter cookies. It is a favourite flavour for many.
It is believed peanut butter originated with the ancient Aztecs and Incas who made a paste by mashing roasted peanuts.
In celebration of National Peanut Butter Cookie Day, 12 June, Review spoke to a baker in the city, Melissa Pelser, who kindly shared her fool proof peanut butter cookie recipe.
You will need:
125g margarine
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup peanut butter
1 1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
A pinch of salt
Method:
- Cream the margarine, sugars and peanut butter together.
- Mix flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt, and mix well.
- Roll in balls and place on prepared baking sheet. Press flat with fork.
Bake at 180◄C for 15 minutes.
Allow to cool and enjoy.
