Look forward to vintage classics at the World of Wheels Expo

Review spoke to the Limpopo Classic Car Club Chairperson, Andy Goetsch, about his passion for old cars and about the preparation for the club’s exhibition.

POLOKWANE – Fans of old and new vehicles can look forward to the upcoming World of Wheels Expo presented by the Mall of the North, from 5 to 11 June.
This is the time when local motor dealerships will exhibit their latest and best models at the mall’s entrances.
Another highlight to look forward to at the World of Wheels Expo is the classic and vintage car exhibition organised by the Limpopo Classic Car Club. It is set to take place on Saturday, 10 June at the overflow parking.
Review spoke to the Limpopo Classic Car Club Chairperson, Andy Goetsch, about his passion for old cars and about the preparation for the club’s exhibition.
“I started my apprenticeship as a mechanic at the age of 18 at my father, Allan’s, garage and have worked at the family business for the past 54 years.
“I work alongside my daughter, Anita, at our business, Modern Service Station,” he said.
Goetsch said he has been involved with many car clubs including Mercedes-Benz, Alfa, and MG. He joined the Limpopo Classic Car Club about four years ago.
This move suited him because of the club’s proximity to Mokopane which makes it easier for him to attend meetings.
Another reason he enjoys the Limpopo Classic Car Club compared to the other clubs he was a member of, as many other clubs are only dedicated to certain brand names, while any manufacturer brand is welcome at the Limpopo Classic Car Club.
He has a range of classic cars in his collection, but his favourite is the 1958 Alfa Romeo Spider.
“I have had this Alfa for 30 years and I recently restored it to mint condition. My latest addition is a short wheelbase Mercedes-Benz 230 GE Gelandewagen which I am restoring.”
Goetsch is also the president of the Mokopane Business Chamber and chairperson of the town’s Community Policing Forum.
“Inbetween all my business commitments I manage to make time for my passion which is my classic car collection. As much as my other commitments need my time and input, it is also the case when it comes to restoring and keeping my classic cars in mint condition,” Goetsch added.
He attends weekly club meetings and said the other members are just as eager as he is to make this year’s World of Wheels classic and vintage car show a huge success.
“The members of the Limpopo Classic Car Club are working very hard to attract a large number of interesting cars for the show and have invited members of other classic car clubs to join the exhibition. The World of Wheels Expo will be an ideal family outing and is free of charge. Our exhibition is from 09:00 until 17:00 so diarise 10 June and come enjoy the expo.”
