A new journey begins for Palesa and Sarel

Sarel proposed to her in front of all their friends at the Magoebaskloof Hotel, two weeks ago.

POLOKWANE – After the Former president and Founder of the Sapa Yopa biker club, Sarel Nong finally proposed to the mother of his child, and girlfriend of nine years Palesa Sekhaolelo, she was left in shock.

The pre-engagement party was organised by Sarel, telling his friends the whole plan without Palesa knowing.

REVIEW interviewed Palesa, the bride to be, on how she feels about the engagement after nine years of dating.

“I’m honoured and astonished by the fact that the man whom I love with my whole being, wants to take his journey of life along with me and our beautiful princess Koketso. I now fully understand what the phrase “I am the happiest woman” means. He has really made me the happiest girl in the world. We’ve been together for such a long time but I feel like our lives has just begun, and I’m very excited about all that is to come,” she said.

Palesa says her mind is quite fuzzy, “I literally froze when he popped the question. Everything happened so fast. One minute I was trying to sit down and catch a glimpse of the beautiful Magoebaskloof mountains and the next thing poof, Sarel is on his knee and the camera men were all over us. Everything is such a blur, I don’t even remember the exact words he used to ask the question. All I remember is saying “of course, YES,” she said with a beautiful smile.

She says Sarel got her unexpected and good. She says he told her they were going for breakfast with their friends in Tzaneen.

“I really didn’t think anything of it. I mean, it was just breakfast, right? And we always do spontaneous things like that, so it was nothing new to me, hence I didn’t see it coming at all,” she said.

Around 15 friends were present at the time of the proposal. “I knew absolutely nothing, after the proposal he was like “here are your people ” as all our friends come to scene.  I was so overwhelmed I couldn’t stop screaming,” she said.

All their friends found out and knew about the pre-engagement only on Saturday afternoon because Sarel was afraid they’d spill the news.

“The fact that he treated me with so much respected and has always shown me this incredible love as if I was his wife all these years made the relationship a breeze. I waited on him and finally he popped the question. I think my family is more excited than I am. They are ecstatic, over the moon knowing that my life is only beginning for us.”

Palesa says their daughter does not understand anything about the engagement yet, but she will explain for her bit by bit as time goes on, until the day of the wedding.

“In fact she wants my ring, she thinks it’s just one of the fancy toys,” she laughs.
She says wedding bells are around the corner. “We’ve been together for so long, so there’s no need to prolong the engagement, the sooner the better. As soon as our families meet for the negotiations we’ll release a date,” she said.

She concludes by advising other couples in relationships. “It’s simple really. You must be patient with your man. Don’t put unnecessary pressure on him cause that will put him off. Give him a few hints here and there, leave a jewellery brochure laying around and be hopeful.  But remember, at the end of the day marriage comes from God and if he is not the one God made you specifically for, it will never happen. Find your soul mate,” she advised.
