Did you know? Today is Lemonade Day

The aim of Lemonade Day is to teach children about starting and running their own business.

POLOKWANE – Often in family movies, children are seen on sidewalks, in front of their houses, or at school fairs, selling lemonade.

In South Africa, with its hot summers, lemonade is a popular refreshment, best served cold.

But why set a full day aside for this drink?

Lemonade day was founded in 2007 in Texas by Lisa and Michael Holthouse, with the aim of teaching children about tarting and running their own business.

Even though the winter is upon us, we can still enjoy a glass of ice cold lemonade.

Here is a recipe to make your own.

Ingredients:

Method:

  1. Add the water and sugar to a small saucepan. Heat until it starts to boil.
  2. Add lemon peel, reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and set aside until the mixture has reached room temperature.
  4. Pour the mixture through a sieve to remove the peel. Set aside.
  5. In a large pitcher add the lemon juice and half a cup of your sugar water syrup.
  6. Add 5 cups water.
  7. Feel free to add more syrup or water depending on your taste.
  8. Serve with ice and fresh mint sprigs.
