Local IT man expected to make a full recovery

Hendrik Kruger is still in ICU after he fell about 10 meters off a roof on 26 April.

MOKOPANE – Hendrik Kruger, an IT technician at E.H. Hassims, was involved in an accident at his work and ended up in the intensive care unit at the Limpopo Mediclinic.

Anton Munger (IT Manager of E.H. Hassims) said Kruger was laying network cables in the roof on 26 April when he fell and landed about 10 metres below in the parking lot on a concrete slab outside the building. “Our prayers are with Hendrik, his wife and his family. We believe that he will recover completely.”

Hendrik was rushed to the hospital where he was stabilised. According to Hendrik’s mother, Magda Mienie, he sustained serious injuries. Both of his arms and legs were broken, as well as his pelvis, cheekbone, and nose. His right elbow was shattered and his liver burst with the impact of the fall.

She told Bosveld Hendrik’s wrist was badly broken and his arteries were cut off. He received a reconstruction operation to his wrist. “The doctors said that they cannot believe he got through the critical stage which is the first 48 hours. They are positive he would recover, although there was some internal bleeding and bleeding on his brain. As a family we stay positive and believe that God will heal him completely,” Mienie said.

Hendrik’s wife, Shalane, said on Facebook her husband is still sedated and connected to a ventilator. The doctor said that he doesn’t foresee any permanent damage and swelling of the brain should subside. The family thanks everyone, especially the staff of E.H Hassims and Sulliman for all their support and for taking care of the medical bill.
