Mkhukhu man enters gospel arena

A staunch ZCC member and Mkhukhu dancer, Paul Phalane's first gospel album is making its mark in the music industry.

LIMPOPO – With its title track ‘Shalang’ meaning ‘Goodbye’, the 12-track album was released on Easter weekend.

Other tracks include ‘I khomolele’ and ‘Keikgethe tse Zion’.

Phalane started singing at the age of seven, while attending Sunday school at Mashanane.

“In the journey to establish myself as musician, I joined the BBT Community Choir. By then I was also working at a supermarket group. I resigned in 2014 to focus on music. I met with Solly Maelula of the Kutulo Music Production and he recognised my talent,” he said. Phalane has three backing vocalists and recorded his album at the Blue Blex Recording Studios in Gauteng, “I don’t copy or remix other people’s music, mine is unique”.

“I compose and I sing. I want to see myself being nominated for a South African Music Award in three years to come. The DVD will be released soon,” he said.

Kutullo Music Production (KMP) Director, Solly Mailula says his company is publishing and marketing Phalane’s music.

“The title track, ‘Shalang’, is rocking Limpopo and the entire SA,” he said.
