Government condemns attempts to burn school in Vuwani

The Provincial Government has in the strongest terms condemned the torching of yet another school in Vuwani after protesting citizens allegedly set alight Tshirhunzanani Primary School yesterday (Thursday).
Provincial Government Spokesperson Phuti Seloba said yesterday (Thursday) that they were disappointed that communities still burn schools thereby depriving children from their right to education.
Seloba said the Provincial Government has called on the Police to strongly act and ensure that those involved in these barbaric acts face the full might of the law. “Our view is that we will not entertain mischievous and criminal behaviour. We would like to put it on record as Government that we acknowledge the establishment of Lim345 Municipality as a vehicle to bring basic services closer to our communities,” he stated.
He further said Government will continue to work with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that all areas of Vuwani return to normalcy but will not conspire with anyone to undermine the legally constituted municipality.
“Our belief is that working together we can achieve more. We are calling upon all the stakeholders to work with us to achieve a stable, peaceful and more productive Vhembe district,” Seloba concluded.
The Pro-Makhado Demarcation Task Team (DTT) has also condemned criminal elements which rob the country of a bright future. Task Team Spokesperson, Nsovo Sambo said these barbaric and criminal elements undermine the genuine struggle of the people of Vuwani regarding the demarcation impasse.
“We appreciate the efforts made by community members who acted swiftly and on time to alert the Police, when on the other hand extinguishing the fire in ensuring that the treasure and the future of our children is protected and safe guarded. We urge the community members with information to come forward in ensuring that we bring these perpetrators to book,” Sambo said this morning (Friday).
He further said the task team will continue to work and cooperate with the law enforcement agencies to ensure that these criminals are brought to book and face the law. He said they therefore urge members of the community not to partake in any form of violence and criminal acts during this time of peaceful protest.
Spokespersons of both the Police and Department of Education could not be reached for comment in time for publication.
