Police are searching for suspects responsible for an attempted cash-in-transit robbery as well as the hijacking of a traffic police vehicle and a Mercedes-Benz in the vicinity of Steelbridge outside Burgersfort on Saturday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said it had been reported that a group of suspects travelling in three separate vehicles forced a cash-in-transit vehicle off the road. “It is alleged that while the robbers tried to get their hands on the cash a Police patrol vehicle stopped at the scene. The robbers ran into the bush, firing shots at the Police. In their flight they came across a traffic official doing point duty. They allegedly robbed the officer’s service pistol and his vehicle as well as a passing Mercedes-Benz,” according to Ngoepe.
Police have recovered all the hijacked vehicles as well as the three vehicles allegedly used by the robbers. A firearm was also recovered.
No arrests were made yet and anyone with information can contact the investigating officer, William Ramokhubedu on 082 499 8389.
