POLOKWANE – Aspiring models and designers were presented with a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase their talent recently.
The Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism and internationally-renowned fashion designer David Tlale hosted a fashion extravaganza at Sun Meropa last Wednesday.
Sport, Arts and Culture Spokesperson, Moloko Moloto, says the Marula Fashion Extravaganza served as a platform for emerging and established fashion designers and models who aspire to make it in the industry to network and showcase their talent.
“As part of the provincial government’s ongoing effort to grow the arts and creative sector, the two sister departments have organised this three-day event, essentially, to enhance knowledge of our locally-based artists using fashion as a medium of communication,” MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Onicca Moloi added.
Moloko says fashion designer extraordinaire, David Tlale, imparted his matchless skills to their ambitious fashion designers and models.
MEC Moloi expressed delight at the fact that Tlale will inject positive energy into the province’s arts and creative sector. “As a province, we’re richly blessed with diverse cultures. We created this opportunity not only for the story of Limpopo to be told through the arts, but also to empower young people in particular to become professionals in their craft,” she said. The MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, Seaparo Sekoati, is optimistic that this event presents life-changing prospects for the talented young people of our province.
“Young people are immensely endowed with creative talent. As government we have a responsibility to create a conducive environment for their exploits to thrive in our pursuit for economic growth and job creation,” said Sekoati.
