David Tlale calls on all local models

An open casting day will be held at Meropa Casino today for all Limpopo based models.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism and internationally renowned fashion designer David Tlale will give fashion designers and models a lifetime opportunity to showcase their talent during the Marula Fashion Extravaganza that started yesterday (Monday).

Today (Tuesday), aspirant, emerging and established models will be treated to an Open Day Casting where a total of 25 models will be selected to display products of designers from Limpopo province and David Tlale on Wednesday night.

This workshop will take place from 2pm until 4pm. The night of glitz and glamour is on Wednesday will commence at 6pm with a cocktail get-together leading to the main event of the Marula Fashion Extravaganza. All the three events take place at Sun Meropa.

The Marula Fashion Extravaganza is a platform for budding, emerging and established fashion designers and models who aspire to make it in the industry.

The Sport, Arts and Culture MEC, Onicca Moloi said, “As part of the provincial government’s ongoing effort to grow the arts and creative sector, the two sister departments have organised this three day event, essentially, to enhance knowledge of our locally based artists using fashion as a medium of communication.”

The fashion designer extraordinaire Tlale will impart his matchless skills to ambitious fashion designers and models.

This workshop is open to budding, emerging and established designers who are operating fashion businesses, studying fashion or have graduated in fashion design. Tlale said self-taught designers who are in the fashion industry are also welcome to attend.

They will be taught ways to establish their brands, run their businesses professionally and access the markets. “We want to help fashion designers to be established beyond the Marula Fashion Extravaganza,” Tlale added.

Moloi has expressed delight at the fact that David Tlale will inject positive energy in the province’s arts and creative sector.

“As a province, we are richly blessed with diverse cultures. We created this opportunity not only for the story of Limpopo to be told through the arts, but also to empower young people in particular to become professionals in their craft,” said Moloi.

MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism Seaparo Sekoati is optimistic that this event presents life changing prospects for talented young people of our province. “Young people are immensely endowed with creative talent. As government we have a responsibility to create a conducive environment for their exploits to thrive in our pursuit for economic growth and job creation,” said Sekoati.

This fashion fiesta is a continuation of the successes of the inaugural Mapungubwe Arts Awards and Cukture Pageant held in December and is also a build-up to the Limpopo Marula Festival. The highly anticipated main event of the Festival is scheduled to take place on 4 March at Impala Park Stadium, Phalaborwa.

Attendance for Wednesday’s event is per invite, while models and designers who want to attend the Monday and Tuesday sessions should register their details with Rofhiwa Sigama on 015 284 4200 or 072 636 6892.
