Thirteen suspected gang members from Dan Village in Ritavi are expected to appear in the Nkowankowa Magistrate’s Court this morning (Monday) on charges of murder and attempted murder after an incident last weekend where two people were killed and one seriously injured.
According to Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe 13 alleged gang members were arrested in the area since last weekend with the last arrests being made on Thursday evening. “A continuous fight between two reported gangs in the area led to the death of Freedom Sephiwe Nukeri and Joel Sekomela Nkgapele last week. After the killings Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba established a special task team to investigate gang related crimes in the area which was quickly followed by various arrests,” Ngoepe said.
He added that the third victim of the alleged gangs’ criminal activities is still recuperating in a local hospital.
The Public Order Policing Unit and the Tactical Responds Team are still deployed in Dan Village and surrounding areas to ensure the safety of local residents.
