Tebatso has her sights set on winning Idols
It is said that talent is a gift from God, but what you do with it, is a gift to God.
POLOKWANE – Using her talent wisely is 25-year-old singer, Tebatso Mokgohloa.
Born and bred right here in the city of stars, she is currently based in Seshego. She studied IT at CTI in Pretoria and is now studying towards a career in civil engineering at Capricorn TVET. She explained to Review when she realised that she really could sing.
” I knew I could sing from as early as nine years of age but I didn’t think it was that big a deal. I’m a very shy person, especially around people. My friend’s mother, Mahadi Legodi, made me realize that I had a gift.”
She said she gets goosebumps every time “I open my mouth in song,” Mokgohloa said. Legodi makes her sing every time they meet and to her that is positive reinforcement to keep thrilling people with her voice.
Tebatso explains that her career began in 2010 and has since been going at a steady pace. She is working hard while waiting for the next big step that will hopefully propel her to super-stardom.
Mokgohloa does not believe in limiting herself with regard to the style of music she performs although she is most comfortable with R&B, but says she sings anything her voice allows her to. She describes a couple of highlights since she began singing professionally.
“Every performance I do has a huge impact on me because the reaction from people is amazing.
“Another highlight has to be when I received a standing ovation after my very first performance,” she continued. Her family has constantly supported her in her pursuit of a career in music and she now has her sights set on Idols and will not let anything deter that dream.
Her advice to other aspiring singers is:
“Be hungry enough to push all the negativity out of the way. Not everyone is going to appreciate you but that shouldn’t deter you.”
