Bikers trade in leather for suits and high heels

Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club members enjoyed an evening of glitz and glamour at their annual gala dinner

POLOKWANE – MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Onicca Moloi attended the eighth annual Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club gala dinner where she addressed the bikers, saying the club has achieved a great deal since its inception.

“As a department, we are grateful to partner with such a big initiative. We have been part of this initiative for several reasons, one of the most important is that we are proud of and support what Sapa Yopa has accomplished for the people of Limpopo.

“The Sapa Yopa initiative is all about social cohesion and bringing people from all walks of life together. We support this initiative because Sapa Yopa is an instrument to encourage diversity and gender equality,” Moloi said.

The event, which kicked off the annual Mapungubwe Arts Festival, took place at the Polokwane Royal Hotel on Thursday.

Local biker, Thabisile Tilly, the Great Buthelezi received the award for Most Experienced Rider in Limpopo, while Japhilin Oupa Grizzly de Beer received the award for Most Effective Rider.

Sapa Yopa Vice President, Johz Mamabolo, received the award for Manager Contribution to the Club of the Year.

Sapa Yopa President, Sarel Nong, said the club is now under the Mapungubwe Arts Festival umbrella which is an honour for them to be recognised by the department for what they have done for the residents of Limpopo.

“The excitement is tangible. We have attended several rallies and day jols, but the Sapa Yopa Rally is in a league of its own. It is the biggest rally in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

“We also heartily thank the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture for their support,” he said.
