KAy-E is fast on his feet and faster on the beat

This young hip hop star raps about personal experiences that others can relate to and believes that is why he has such a large fan base

POLOKWANE – Former u/23 national team player Keletile Nyamane traded in his boots for a mic some years ago and has since become a rapper to be reckoned with.

Now known as Kay-E, the young man has already garnered a massive fan base and was listed as the number one unsigned artist in South Africa’s biggest hip hop magazine, Hype, in 2011.

The rapper’s career has grown in leaps and bounds and his music has been play-listed on various major music platforms in South Africa and the continent at large.

“I started free-styling to other people’s songs with friends in my backroom on weekends, my ex-girlfriend introduced me to a producer from my ‘hood’ and we started recording. From there on there was no turning back. My first official mixtape, From Ndoyafa with Colour was released in July 2010 through my independent record label Greenlight Entertainment, which was self-marketed and distributed. I have released five music videos from the mixtape including my well-known hit single Bona Re Etsang which was a huge success. I was one of the first hip hop artists to have my music played on national TV channels in South Africa,” he gushes.

His latest single, Ubani, released in October, has been well received by fans and has received a fair number of play listings on various radio stations. On the single the rapper talks about his upbringing and struggles along the way that have shaped him into the artist he is today. “My previous offering, a freestyle titled Six-Nine, received 101 000 views within two weeks of its release.”

He advises young up-and-coming artists not to follow in others’ footsteps, but to create their own path.
