Luka 120, music’s next big star

Although he did not manage to bag an award at the recent South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMA Awards), he has proven to be a force in the music industry

LOUIS TRICHARDT – Born and bred in Madombidzha village outside Louis Trichardt, Mashudu “Luka 120” Makhado (32) has come a long way since he was first taken under the wing of Master Lee of Lee Records.

A talented hip hop artist, Luka 120 soon caught the attention of Next Music and Orchard Music after he began working with Master Lee.
“Additional collaborations with a variety of well-known rappers and other artists helped my music get more exposure which in turn vastly increased my fan base. My first album, Break Up Music, produced several hit singles which  set the stage for great things to come,” he says.
“Embarking on a series of successful live performances including the 120 Tour in 2013 and 2014 has paved my way into the music industry as I quickly gained a reputation as a solid performer and outstanding musician with whom to collaborate,” he explained.
Luka 120 soon began working with other musicians in a variety of capacities where he contributed to the Gazuman album, Rpk and Breezi album, and collaborated with Bizz Makhi, Breezi, Llooks, Muzi, Rpk and Jack T on Break Up Music 2. “I also contributed to the Llooks album, Tsutsuma Track, and various other music projects.”

Although he did not manage to bag an award at the recent South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMA Awards), he has launched several clothing lines such as 120 clothing, 120 caps, 120 hoodies, and 120 sneakers and it is clear he is a talented star on the rise.
