DJ Nascent’s hits flood the airwaves

Local DJ produces hit after hit and plans on doing bigger and better things in the future

POLOKWANE – DJ Nascent’s most recent release, Xi ni yengile, is climbing up the charts.

The song is currently on MLFM’s Top 30 chart along with getting airtime on various community stations. Working with Tanya and DJ Tukzin, the trio produced this hit.

The 26-year-old also features on another hit, The Turning Point, which is on Y-FM’s Hot 99 show.

Nascent, known for being a perfectionist, is currently working on an album which will feature and incorporate sounds from various artists from other African countries and aims to achieve a unique sound, different to anything he has produced before.

Born Nkosinathi Baloyi, Nascent grew up in Rotterdam village and started out in the music industry when he was only 16.

In honour of his father, who struggled to make it in the music industry, Nascent named his record label Khalanga, the Baloyi clan name.

Through Khalanga Records, Nascent has worked with several artists such as Limpopo Roots, DJ Gami Swaga, and Nurse Matlala among others. His music style is Afro-house and with modern house tunes supported by strong drum beats which gives it a distinct sound with crossover appeal which will have the whole family dancing.

He says being the youngest child of three children, he was given more leeway to pursue his interests. “They supported me without limits,” Nascent said with a broad smile. “I have to run every one of my songs by them first, especially if there are a few vulgar words involved. They will then either approve it or insist that I change it.”
