Sunflower Day Schools competition

You could win an awesome prize for your school and your class might be the lucky recipients of a special surprise from the Spur Foundation!

Break open your piggybank and prepare to head to Pick n Pay to ensure you have your very own Tube of Hope – TOPE – to show your support for The Sunflower Fund on Sunflower Day. You could win an awesome prize for your school and your class might be the lucky recipients of a special surprise from the Spur Foundation!

“For the first time ever, The Sunflower Fund is offering a first prize to the value of R20 000 to the school that shows the greatest Sunflower spirit on Sunflower Day, which takes place on Friday, 16 September 2016. Take photos of your class – or even your whole school – doing something creative with their Topes, upload them to The Sunflower Fund’s Facebook Page under the Sunflower Day Schools Competition in the gallery, and get your family and friends to ‘like’ your entry,” said the Fund’s CEO, Alana James. She added the winning school would receive a donation of goods of the school’s choice, to the value of R20 000.

The second prize is goods to the value of R10 000 and a third prize to the value of R5 000.

All you need to do is:

1. Register online before 16 September 2016 at www.sunflowerfund.org.za – Sunflower Day to complete the online entry.

2. Ensure all the learners have purchased a Tube of Hope – Tope and are ready to show them off on Sunflower Day.

3. Take photos and upload them to The Sunflower Fund’s Facebook page!

The school with the greatest number of ‘likes’, along with the decision of a panel of judges, will determine the winners.

Points will be awarded for the school with the most people participating in the project AND the most innovative use of the Tope!

“I am sure you are all wondering what a Tope is!” James added.

“A Tube of Hope or Tope is an affordable, multipurpose article of clothing that may be worn as a headband, mask, scarf, cap or arm-band. It can be used for a wide variety of sports or outdoor activities and will be available in six eye-catching colours. The Tope offers practical functionality for the entire family and gives wearers the opportunity to show their support for this important cause. It will be available in a children’s size (R20 incl VAT) and an adults’ size (R25 incl VAT) and will go on sale at Pick n Pay stores and Round Table in August 2016.” About The Sunflower Fund:

The Sunflower Fund, a South African Non-Profit organisation (NPO), is dedicated to creating awareness, educating the public and handling the registration process for people to join the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR). The Sunflower Fund pays for the test cost of people joining the SABMR. This is fundamental to saving the lives of thousands of South Africans each year. The chance of finding a matching donor is 1 in 100 000 – and as ethnic origin plays a significant role in the search for a donor, South Africa’s rainbow nation is at a distinct disadvantage, requiring a large pool of prospective donors.

The aim of The Sunflower Fund is to increase the number of donors on the current registry to at least 400 000 proportionate representation of the four main ethnic groups in South Africa. Should you wish to become a donor, support one of the fundraising projects or make a financial contribution, please contact The Sunflower Fund on toll-free number: 0800 12 10 82. Visit www.sunflowerfund.org.za to learn more or look out for the DONATE button to make a cash donation via the website.
