Hip Hop artist “C-Slow” speeds things up with new mixtape

The name Tim C-Slow Phaswana, might not sound familiar, but soon, anyone who enjoys Hip Hop music will be singing along to his songs.

POLOKWANE – C-Slow’s career started in 1996 when he formed the group, Underground Kings (UGK) with group members Fluster G and Doctor Mapankula.

He says he was heavily influenced by American rapper, Snoop Dogg. Now, two decades later, he released a mixtape tilted Picture Perfect.

This 11-track masterpiece is testament to how far he has come since his early days and shows how much he still has to offer. His style is unique, he calls it Monyaka, a mixture of various genres.

“This mixtape is a representation of my personal experience in the music industry; it is a true reflection of how I view life. I worked with a lot of different people on this tape to capture the diversity of the Hip Hop culture in Limpopo.

“After a good run with Underground Kings, I moved to Pretoria to further my studies in information technology and the other group members pursued other avenues. “I started working with a record label called Infant Soul and released a single titled Look at me now produced by DJ Joni Dip,” he tells BONUS.

He says the mixtape consists of nine tracks and will influence people in a big way as he believes people will relate to the issues he addresses in his songs.

“It took two months to finish the mixtape. I worked with a number of producers including Vic Mash, C-Les, Skinnz from Nigeria, Bloque Maghandi, Big Benjie and B-face.”

He says his goal is to change the perception of people who think Hip Hop is a culture with no morals and vulgar language.

“I want to brand myself as a proud Hip Hop artist from Limpopo to give the youth hope. I want to show people from this province that they don’t have to be from Gauteng to become successful,” he explains. He says he is grateful to his family for their support and promises to keep doing the province proud.
