Women embrace all their ‘imperfections’

The Harmony Social Club wrapped up Women's Month on a high note with an event themed, 'Hiding behind the lipstick'.

POLOKWANE – The exquisite celebration took place at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex. According to Club Chairperson, Mange Motuku, the club was designed for women from different backgrounds to network and motivate each other. “We wanted to encourage women to speak out about the challenges they face in their respective lives. We go through so much turmoil behind closed doors but carry on as if everything is fine,” Motuku said.

She told the guests it is okay to reach out to others and ask for help. “Emotional and physical abuse, financial problems and parenting can take its toll on an individual.

“Women are strong but need to realise it is okay to lean on others for support.”

Mokutu said by sharing their stories, women can learn a lot from each other. “You can only hide behind the lipstick for so long before you break. We are the caregivers of the nation. we need to take care of ourselves before we can do our duty to the rest of society,” Motuka explained.

Professional image consultant, Tshepo Mathabatha, said: “We are too worried about how others perceive our appearance”. She said people hide their true selves behind fancy clothes and “bright lipstick” but it is a mask that hides our true identity.

“While we try to impress others, we gather huge debts by buying things we cannot afford and usually don’t need.” She said we judge ourselves way too harshly while we should be embracing what we have.

According to Mathabatha, happiness and inner peace must take priority.
