Celebrating Milestones with Candy

South African songstress, Candy “Tsamandebele”, will launch her new soul uplifting jazz album, Easy Come Easy Go, with her show Celebrating Milestones with Candy at Sun Meropa’s Jembe Tavern on 2 July 2016.

POLOKWANE – A celebration of Candy’s 20 year anniversary in music, the intimate show will also feature KB, Malatji and DJ Tronx.

Candy who was born in Limpopo, started her music career in 1993 as song writer on the legendary late Peter Teanet’s double multi-platinum seller, Nwa’yingwani. In the same year, she moved to Johannesburg to look for a recording deal and met up with Shaagan Disco King Papa, Penny Penny. She ended up working on his national hit “Shichangani-I shilungu”.

In 1995, she and her friend Nurse Matlala, as the Shaka Bundu Girls, released their platinum-selling song “Hona Mo Soo” followed by the gold certified “One Day” in 1996 and “Hi July” in 1997.The duo later joined Kalawa Jazmee in 2004 when they were christened CandyNurse by Oskido and became part of BOP’s classic album, Life Iskorokoro, also working as the group’s backing crew.

In 2009, Candy launched her solo career with her debut album Siki (Five Cents) with great success and also started her independent music label called Mosekedi Entertainment through which she helps to develop emerging artists.

Her efforts have been rewarded with a 2009 SATMA (Traditional music Award) and in 2010 she was also nominated for SAMA Award for Best Alternative Album African. Candy’s strong vocals have seen her featured on a number of ground breaking collaborations. These include the BOP hit “Ma bop”, “Nkatanga” by Selaelo Selota and Malatji, “Boloba Thaba” with Revolution, DJ Lucky, Lacosta’s “Diteki” and “Khoma jive”, Uhuru’s “Nkirikiri”, Dr Malinga’s “Moshito” and Black Motion’s “Maghoro”.  She has also written a track for the legendary Ringo Madlingozi, “Baleka”.

Candy has also graced stages in Miami (USA), Paris, UK, Glasgow, Algeria, Angola, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast and has shared the stage with local and international artists such as Mali’s Salif Keita, Nigeria’s Femi Kuti, Kenny Lattimore (USA), Stimela, Thandiswa Mazwai, Dr Thomas Chauke, Mafikizolo, Sello Galane, Selaelo Selota, Dr Rebecca Malope, Dj Fresh, Klawa Chikitas, USA superstar Monique, Winnie Mashaba and more.

Her show at Meropa is a celebration of these illustrious achievements and fans are promised a spectacular introduction to her latest album.
