Mashudu runs Polokwane in style

"It's about representing and promoting the city of Polokwane"

POLOKWANE – Run Polokwane is an exciting up-and-coming fashion label launched launched last year by Mashudu Makhado (24) from Turfloop.

Mashudu has a B.Com marketing management qualification from Richfield College.

“It’s about representing and promoting the city of Polokwane. I wanted to show everyone that people from Polokwane can create apparel that people will like as much as other brands.

“It wasn’t a serious business idea at the beginning, I was at home, just hanging around when I came up with the idea to start a clothing line. I wanted to do something that would represent Polokwane,” says Makhado.

“The ‘Run’ theme is prevalent in other cities such as Pretoria and Durban but those places aren’t like Polokwane. That is why I thought we needed our own merchandise.”

Mashudu says Polokwane’s movement is different to that of other cities. “Run Polokwane will be more of a hip-hop movement. It will include art, fashion, culture, and a lifestyle specific to Polokwane.

“People will have rap battles and show off their talent in Run Polokwane clothing.”

Mashudu hopes to open a chain of Run Polokwane stores in the near future. “Anyone can wear my clothes, I don’t have a specific target market. I am designing toddler merchandise too. My aim is to dress the whole family,” says Mashudu.
