Sapa Yopa bikers roar in the US

Black Bike Week is the largest African American motorcycle rally in the US

POLOKWANE – Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club members visited the United States (US) to participate in the annual Black Bike Week,  which was held at Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.

The rally took place over America’s Memorial Day weekend from 27 to 30 May.

The first Black Bike Week took place in 2008 when people realised there was not a lot of representation for African American bikers and it was decided to invite black bikers from all over the world to dedicate a week to represent the different countries who all have one thing in common; a love for motorcycles.

Events during the bike fest included motorcycle racing, concerts, parties, and street festivals.

Sapa Yopa president, Sarel Nong said Sapa Yopa members took the opportunity to meet with other bike clubs in South Carolina and to share the different views and styles they all have which make each club and its bikers unique.

Nong said the club was negotiating to host Black Bike Week at Polokwane’s annual bike rally.

“I am proud to say that the club is well represented and that bikers who made the trip to South Carolina will bring back well needed knowledge and training that will help other bikers be safer on the road. We are proud to represent not only Limpopo but also South Africa in this prestigious event,” Nong said.
