Fried malana – a delicacy

Tebza Chicken Grill in Polokwane serves up tasty intestines (malana)

POLOKWANE – The meal, served with pap, gravy and a salad will leave you asking for more.

Owner and head chef, Tshidi Baloyi shares more about the restaurant.

Tshidi says she wanted to offer people something different and very close to home.

“Malana is more of a traditional meal in our homes and loved by many. I wanted to give customers a home comfort.”

She reminds us that its not just popular because it reminds people of their homes, but also because of the great taste. She says she cooks from the heart with the aim of pleasing her customers, she has a special method.

“We cook differently here, pity I can’t reveal my secret ingredients,” she jokes.

She goes on to say the fried malana is far tastier than cooked malana and that’s how she manages to stay ahead of her competition.

Tshidi says the business has been doing well, but it has its fair share of challenges, for example, when competitors sell at a lower price. She says she overcomes it because she has secured loyal customers whom she serves on a regular basis.

The cook from Westenburg says she has managed to employ three people on a full time basis thus far. “The business started in 2006 and I have also opened another branch in Lebowakgomo.”

She says her goal is to open more branches across the province.

Tebza Chicken Grill is located at the corner of Jorissen and Joubert Streets in Polokwane.
