Local stylist shares top tips

Personal stylist and businesswoman, Shonisani Mphoweni, talks about choosing the perfect accessories to round off any outfit perfectly

POLOKWANE – Shoni, as she is known in the fashion industry, says bags and shoes have the ability to transform any ordinary outfit into something extraordinary.

“As appealing as it may look on display, you have to consider how it will look on you. Shoes are a standard feature to complement any kind of outfit, yet you must consider your body type before buying a six inch high heel. Shoni says shoes with higher heels complement tall to medium height and slim people, while people with fuller figures may suffer discomfort when wearing the shoes because they don’t offer body balance and support. she says the same applies for men. Shoes that have sharper points look good on taller men, while shoes with an oval or round points better suit shorter men.”Before you buy the pair of shoes, carefully identify matching outfits which you already have in your closet. This will make it easier to mix and match the shoes with your existing outfits.”

Another mistake people make is misinterpreting the purpose of bags.

“Handbags are normally best suited for going to the office, church or while strolling through the mall as they are usually big enough to put all your essentials in and leaves your hands free. Clutch bags, on the other hand, are better suited for formal events,” she explains. Shoni sells items like shoes, bags, belts, sunglasses and dresses to name but a few. This bubbly stylist hails from the rural village of Vyeboom.

“After working for other people and gathering the knowledge, I felt it was time to go solo,” she explained. She says her goal is to open her own store. “Fashion is universal and plays an important role in our lives.”
