Heavyweights in the music industry, business people, politicians and traditional leaders all attended the launch of the 13th Munghana Lonene FM Xitsonga Music Awards at Sun Meropa on Tuesday.

POLOKWANE – Heavyweights in the music industry, business people, politicians and traditional leaders all attended the launch of the 13th Munghana Lonene FM Xitsonga Music Awards at Sun Meropa on Tuesday.

Artists will compete in 13 categories including the newly introduced Best Language Purity category as well as the once-off Best Station’s 50th Song of the year. The station will also hand over four special awards of recognition.

The launch was officially started by South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, Munghana Lonene FM (Ml.fm) station manager, James Shikwambana, acting Mopani District Municipality Mayor, Minkateko Shimange and Giyani Municipality Mayor, Pat Hlungwani.

Shikwambana said these awards continue to play a very important role in improving the Xitsonga music offering and have inspired musicians to up their game and produce good quality music. “As a station, we also use these awards to send a very strong message in our fight against xenophobia, hence Xidimingwana from Mozambique is nominated to receieve a special award,” he said.

The awards presentations will be followed by a music festival which will feature famous South African musicians:

Ringo Madligozi, Solly Mahlangu, Penny Penny, Mdu, Dr Thomas Chauke, Joe Shirimane na Vana va Ndoda, Kenny Bevhula, Sunglen, Prince Rhangane, Gammi, DJ Themba and Mchangaan.

Stand a chance to win with Munghana Lonene FM Music Awards:

The 13th Munghana Lonene FM Xitsonga Music Awards ceremony will take place on 7 November at Giyani Stadium.

Tickets to the ceremony are available from Computicket and cost R50, VIP tickets cost R350.

Listeners stand a chance to win R10 000 and a VIP experience if they buy their tickets before 16 October.
