Drop in the price of petrol for September

The Automobile Association of South Africa (AA) has revealed the petrol price could drop by as much as 64 cents a litre in September.

NATIONAL – If current trends persist, we could be looking at a petrol price decrease of between 55 and 64 cents in September, while diesel could drop by between 53 and 57 cents.

Sharp climbs in the Rand/US dollar exchange rate have been offset by ongoing declines in international petroleum prices, the AA said in a statement earlier this week.

Diesel is showing a drop of between 53 and 57 cents and illuminating paraffin 60 cents. In August the price of 93 and 95 petrol declined 51 cents, while diesel dropped by 76 cents a litre.

Last month, AA expected the price of petrol to drop by 28 cents in August, and diesel and illuminating paraffin between 50 and 55 cents, with the rand’s dismal performance against the dollar expected to reduce this probability.

So far in 2015, the price of petrol has increased from R10.78 a litre in January to R13.26 in August.
