Oscar Pistorius to be released from prison after serving 10 months of a five-year sentence

NATIONAL – Paralympic gold medallist, Oscar Pistorius is set to be released from the  Kgosi Mampuru II prison on Friday, where he served 10 months of a five-year sentence.

Pistorius was acquitted in September for the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013.

According to TimesLive,  his release was in line with South African sentencing guidelines that say non-dangerous prisoners should spend only one-sixth of a custodial sentence behind bars.

Pistorius is due to serve the rest of his term in “custodial supervision”, a form of house arrest.

Upon his release, he will be confined to his uncle’s home in Waterkloof, Pretoria.
