LIMPOPO – BONGA Glad Mokela, who is known as “Lady Bonga” in music circles, stepped onto the South African DJ scene at a time when it was still a man’s world.

But this talented young woman rose to prominence and has shared the stage with some of the highest-rated DJs in South Africa and abroad.

Lady Bonga recently released her debut 13-track album, Euphoric Sounds Vol 1.

The album includes tracks such as Did You Ever, Capital Chemistry, Forever Dreaming, Talking to the Drums and Something, and was released under Infant Soul Productions.

“I started playing in public when I was in matric. My mom supported me. I grew up as a dancer and always had great passion for music. I was driven to become a DJ and started my career in 2010,” says Lady Bonga.

She says her goal is to become one of the most successful DJs in the province and help other young DJs just as she was helped to get where she is today.

“It took me three months to package the album. I worked with Joni Dip from Infant Productions and Van Luco from Nu Afro Records. I would like to thank the producers who supported me from day one by sending their projects to be part of my album, such as Patricia Edwards, OPZ and Da Vynalist, V.P.S Projects, DJ Soul Caizler, Kay Deep, DJ Tears Plk, Trendstatic Music, Minimal Groove, TAIG, De Montuh, Stan Deep and Aludroit,” she says.

She sats the album is a blend of soulful, deep tech and afro house.

“It is a combination of all styles that creates a broader spectrum of the country’s house music scene. It also reflects the genres that define Lady Bonga as a DJ. I am happy I delivered a quality album that is proudly South African and independently released. The album is also available on iTunes, Traxsource, and Beatport,” she says.

“As I am an independent distributor, people must go to music stores to place orders, this creates a demand for us to deliver the album to their nearest music stores.”
