POLOKWANE – GOSPEL music lovers should brace themselves for a series of concerts and events to be held in celebration of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church’s 140th anniversary in July.

During a press conference at the SABC last Wednesday, Rev Patrick Nyambi, the moderator of Evangelical Presbyterian Church, said a concert would be held at the Polokwane Cricket Club on July 4, which would also serve as a fund raiser.

The concert would feature gospel singers such as Rebecca Malope, Deborah Fraser, Winnie Mashaba, Solly Mahlangu, Solly Moholo and Sechaba.

Nyambi said the church also held a fundraising golf tournament in Johannesburg earlier this month.

“The Evangelical Presbyterian Church will turn 140 on July 9, but the celebrations will take place from July 8 to 12 at Valdezin in Makhado. This will also serve as the unveiling of Lydia Xihlomulo’s tombstone, who was baptised in the church 39 years ago,” he said.

He added that there would be a soccer match on July 5 and a gala dinner on July 27, where they would honour people such as Patrice Motsepe and Rebecca Malope for their contribution to the growth of the country.
