LIMPOPO – MUSICIAN and DJ, Collen Mmotla, says he is looking forward to release another album.

Mmotla, better known as Chymamusique, was born in Diphale, Burgersfort. He completed his matric in 2007 and studied analytical chemistry at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). He studied media at Boston College thereafter, and graduated in 2013.

Chymamusique started his music career as a jazz pianist in 2000 when he developed a love for house music and started learning more about music production in 2006.

Chymamusique released his first online single in 2010 and that’s where most people took notice. In 2011 he won three remix competitions conducted by Soulcandi, Blackwhole ENT and Castle Lite and that’s where people started paying more attention to his music and DJs started using his material on their compilations.

“I am currently running my own label and work with major labels as a producer, remixer and a DJ.

“I released a CD with Sony in 2012 where I was mixed with my fellow popular South African DJs and producers,” he says.

Early in 2014 he was nominated for the South African Music Awards for the best remix category for the remix he did for Mi_Casa’s Jika. He was also nominated for the Metro FM Music Awards which took place in Durban in February and he won the award as Best New Artist.

In April he was honoured with three nominations at the Fame Awards and he won the title as Best Dance Artist.

“My second CD, titled Gift Of Sound was released on July 14 2014 and it’s available in all good music stores nationwide. The CD features the likes of Brian Temba, Soulstar, Rona Ray, Charlie Mind Games, Nengah Krisnarini and other local and international talents,” Chymamusique says.

Chymamusique has shared a stage with Vinny Da Vincy, Dj Oskido, Black Coffee, DJ Christos, Monique Bingham, Ralf Gum, Glen Lewis, QB Smith, Charles Webster, Black Motion and Martin Atjazz, to name just a few.

His music is played on most national radio stations and national TV channels. He has performed live on TV on SABC1 as well as on Vuzu TV and other national stations.

In 2014 Chymamusique was in the top three on SABC1’s TV show 1’s and 2’s with music videos, music production, songwriting, mixing, radio presenting, producing a show and other music-related aspects. “Some of my songs are available on compilations by DJ Claude, Micasa, Lulo Café’s CD on Soulcandi 15, DJ Terrance (Music box 6) under Soulcandi records, Soul Meditation CD by DJ Kanunu, DJ Christos’s latest offering and other CD’s that will be released soon.”
