Education at the top of rapper’s agenda

MAANDA "Racha Kill Mr 5455" Nevhutalu from Ngovhela village outside Thohoyandou says he wants to take the local music industry by storm, especially hip hop music.

LIMPOPO – MAANDA “Racha Kill Mr 5455” Nevhutalu from Ngovhela village outside Thohoyandou says he wants to take the local music industry by storm, especially hip hop music.

Nevhutalu (21) started rapping in 2012 and was discovered by Vhembe hip hop legend, Mizo Phyll, who encouraged him to take hip hop music seriously.

“I fell in love with performing at an early age, and it came as a shock when people in my community started to play my songs and actually loved them. I was nervous the first time I went on stage in 2013 and to my surprise, the audience knew the words to my songs,” says Nevhutalu.

His debut album, 5455 will be released in November. He says music can be healing and has a way of touching hearts.

“I signed on with Rita Dee Entertainment in 2014 and I have since become comfortable on stage. My new single, Nama, went viral in one week. I have shoot three music videos, which will be released in August,” he says.

Nevhutalu says as a gr. 12 learner, it is challenging for him to concentrate on both his studies and music career. “I let my manager handle the business side of things. I want to achieve my goals and be a good role model,” he says.

He says he wants to have his music sold nationally in two years time. “But my 2015 resolution is to finish school and register for law next year,” he concludes.
