Brian cooks up a new album

Brian, whose real name is Jomo Brian Kubayi is cooking up another album, and he plans to release it before the end of May.

LIMPOPO – WHEN Brian Bomba was in high school he used to imitate the legendary Tsonga disco musicians Paul Ndlovu and Pieter Teanet.

These are the people who influenced the kind of music he plays, he tells CV.

“I used to act like I was Paul Ndlovu when I sung his song ‘hi ta famba moyeni’, not knowing that I would one day become a singer myself,” explains Brian, the man behind the hit song ‘Yellow Bone’ which refers to people with lighter skin.

Brian, whose real name is Jomo Brian Kubayi is cooking up another album, and he plans to release it before the end of May. “This album will capture a classic style of music such as that of Paul Ndlovu and Peter Teanet,” he says. Asked if his fans could expect any change with regard to genre, his producer Hlayisani Maluleke says the only difference would be what he calls “maturity,” where they would be improving on their previous work.

“We have been there and have seen the market and what is expected if one needs to penetrate it. We want to create music that is unique and able to last longer in the market,” he says.

Unlike other musicians, Brian took after his mother who used to sing in the late 1970s and 1980s. Many of her tracks have been remixed by artists.

“There was a song called ‘Tsalelani a kaya’ (Write Back Home) which she always sang as she cried. This is why I called my first album Tsalelani,” he says.

Apart from music, Brian works as an information management coordinator for three mines in Burgersfort.

He makes time to do what he enjoys most.

“To me music was never about money…I just love singing,” says the 26-year-old singer.
