Record label issues a thing of the past

LOCAL musician, Eugene "Mulo Blaqe" Malungani's troubles seem to finally be over following the release of the artwork on his fourth album, Anticipation.

LOCAL musician, Eugene “Mulo Blaqe” Malungani’s troubles seem to finally be over following the release of the artwork on his fourth album, Anticipation.

Mulo, who hails from Seshego, promised to release an album over a year ago, but couldn’t as his record label, which he does not wish to name, would only release him from his contract if he signed over all publishing rights.

Things went sour when he decided not to release an album under these terms and fought to be independent, until the company let him go recently.

He says the release date of the album, which is expected to be in March, will be announced this month by the Cape Town-based distribution company, Motherland Distribution, while Soletone Records and Pushatainment, which he co-owns, will manage his career.

“The previous contracts and troubles I had with the record company are over. We did not agree on percentages and I don’t want to talk about other issues. For me, that is all in the past and I now hope for the best with my project, which the fans should expect next month,” says Mulo.

He adds that he is happy to be independent as it has allowed him to make his own decisions and own his music.

“I have only outsourced a well-known distribution company to be able to reach all my fans countrywide,” he says.

Anticipation is a 13-track album which features the likes of Kojo Akusa, Da Capo, DJ Fortee and Vitoto, Complexity, Maleigh, Bright Breeze and King P.
