Ready for war

Rugby fans in the city can look forward to a Super Rugby warm-up match between the Vodacom Bulls and Toyota Cheetahs on Saturday January 24.

POLOKWANE – Rugby fans in the city can look forward to a Super Rugby warm-up match between the Vodacom Bulls and Toyota Cheetahs on Saturday January 24.

The Blue Bulls Company and Polokwane Municipality announced that the Vodacom Bulls would face the Toyota Cheetahs at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex in a match that would start at 17:00.

“Both teams will be looking to assert a bit of early dominance over their rivals and will no doubt be looking to send a positive pre-season message to their fans,” Polokwane mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng, said du-ring the announcement, which was made in December last year.

This fixture forms part of a partnership between the Blue Bulls Company and the Polokwane Municipa-lity, aimed at generating funds for tertiary students in Limpopo.

Barend van Graan, CEO of the Blue Bulls Company, said the Polokwane fixture had become one of the highlights of their pre-season preparations. “It is always a real pleasure for our team to play in Polokwane. The professionalism shown by the organising committee is always of the highest standard, and the reception we receive from the fans is something that our players and management look forward to.

“It is also a great spectacle for rugby fans in Polokwane, as most of them are not able to travel to Pretoria or Bloemfontein for Super Rugby games. Most importantly, we are honoured that, by participating in this match, we can assist young students to further their education,” Van Graan said.

Nkadimeng said besides entertainment for the fans, the game presented a welcome opportunity for the municipality to raise funds for tertiary students who would be able to assist the city in realising its 2030 Smart City Vision when they have qualified.

Nkadimeng highlighted the economic benefits that an event of this magnitude held for the city and encouraged people to fill the stadium to capacity for this event.
