Get involved in the fight against addiction

POLOKWANE – Meteffect, a local organisation that fights the pandemic of addiction in the community will hold a golf day fundraiser on 22 November.

Scott Davison from Meteffect would like to invite sponsors to join them in this fundraising endeavour.

“Our motive for hosting the Meteffect Golf Day is to create greater awareness of the disease of addiction and at the same time start the Meteffect Sponsorship Fund to assist those who are much in need of treatment and who are unable to afford it,” says Davison.

He adds that addiction is a pandemic that tears apart the fabric of our society.

“When the word addiction is heard, the picture which springs to mind is the drunk on a park bench with a paper packet or the junkie sprawled in the ally way with a needle stuck in a vein.

“The truth is much larger than that. The face of addiction is the 13-year-old kid huffing (inhaling) chemicals, it is the manager drinking too much, the brother gambling away his earnings, the mother using prescription medication to get through the night and the friend who has just committed suicide because her co-dependency issues have become too much,” Davison explains.

“Unfortunately, recovery from addiction is costly and only 3% of the addicted population can afford treatment,” he adds.

To assist Meteffect in creating awareness and launching the Meteffect Sponsorship Fund, prospective sponsors have the option of advertising on tee boxes, greens, the first and 10th tee box as well as the ninth and 18th greens, the clubhouse, halfway and driving range or prizes.

There will be full media coverage for the event.
