BORN Rali Malatji (35), “Kumetrah” is a comedian and entrepreneur who holds a diploma in travel and tourism from Damelin.

Kumetrah says comedy is all about telling the truth, especially if it is an uncomfortable truth.

“I have been a professional comedian since 2010. I have so far trained five local comedians. I have worked with comedians such as Mashabela Galane, Colen Salesman Chepi, Sammy Fever, and Roni Modimola. My work as a comedian has earned me corporate events as a master of ceremonies and I also do weddings and parties. I have also done charity events with Mashabela Galane. I wish to expose more talent in and around Limpopo,” Kumetrah says.

“I also do a radio feature called Kumetrah Opinionated with GLFM in Lebowakgomo on Thursdays at 17:10. I am the owner of Klaar Comedy. I will not stop until comedy reaches a level of fair recognition in Limpopo,” he continues.

He says Klaar Comedy operates from Limpopo and offers entertainment for any celebration.

“Our agents assist in packaging a suitable detailed entertainment menu for your event. We are an entertainment house that brings a unique experience in the entertainment industry. This unique experience ranges from played sounds to live performances. Our exciting candidates have been carefully selected and are profiled according to their unique experience. The main aim was to unearth and expose the hidden talent, groom and promote individuals possessing such talent and destine them to greater heights. Entertain at the highest professional level,” he says.

Kumetrah says as a comedian, you have a social responsibility to talk about issues that are usually taboo. “We give a voice to the people and say things that some people are thinking but can’t say. It’s amazingly fun for me to get to go on stage and talk about big issues and feel a crowd roar because they are on my side,” he says.

He says South Africa has a lot of talent, and there are a lot of people out there who have the potential to become independent animators, and South Africa needs that. “I would like to encourage anyone who is passionate about anything, especially comedy, to pursue their dreams. It is our responsibility to ensure, as independent comedians, that we take South Africa to the next level,” he says.
