POLOKWANE – The 18-year-old was selected as he excelled in the trail matches that were played at Tom Naudé Technical High School over the last few months.
The team was announced last week and the formidable lock said the call-up came as motivation and will also prompt him to thrive for more selections.
“This is my first selection into a major provincial rugby team. I am excited about the call-up, it means a lot to me as a player and I am motivated to do even beter.”
Northern Academy Secondary School principal Frederik Romijn said Moremi’s achievement will inspire other rugby players at the school.
“We are proud of him. He has been consistent in our practice sessions and matches. He has set a good tone for other rugby players at the school. His selection is a very good achievement for him and we wish him all the best in the future.”
Head of sport at the school, Oliver Moorcroft said Moremi was placed in the starting line-up for the academy week team. The provincial youth weeks have, however, been cancelled due to the number of Covid-19 infections in some provinces.
“The players will however receive certificates to say they were chosen. It is unfortunate for him because it is his last year in Northern Academy as he is in Gr 12. We were excited to see what he would have achieved at the tournament.”
Moorcroft added that John has a bright future ahead of him. “He is a determined young man and he looks forward to furthering his education at the University of Johannesburg, North West University or the University of Cape Town. He plans to be part of the university team and his idol is Springbok prop Trevor Nyakane. It is the passion that Trevor plays with that inspires him.”
