SLC competes against Beaulieu

Stanford Lake College (SLC) travelled to Beaulieu College in Gauteng over the weekend to compete against them in various sporting codes. Here are the results:

POLOKWANE – Stanford Lake College (SLC) travelled to Beaulieu College in Gauteng over the weekend to compete against them in various sporting codes.

In hockey, the boys’ first team hockey match was a grudge match after the recent festival. SLC went down early in the match, conceding four short corners in 10 minutes with them converting one into a goal. The SLC players did not back down however, and determinedly kept possession of the ball.

Stanford Lake College Marketer, Rona McGaffin, said: “Our pressure paid off and we managed to find an equaliser before half time, making the score 1-1. In the second half we dominated play and converted a field goal and a penalty stroke.” The SLC second team lost their match 2-0 with the u/15 team drawing their match 0-0.

In girls hockey, the SLC u/14 team showed a lot of potential with exceptional skill and plays, winning their match 2-1.

The u/15 SLC team dominated the whole game, but despite this, they struggled to secure any goals and drew the match 0-0. The second team lost their match 4-0.

Beaulieu’s girls first hockey team dominated the match, however SLC had a good defensive structure in place. When the opportunity presented itself, it was well utilised by SLC who secured a goal to win the match 1-0.

The squash team, consisting of four players, won two and lost two matches. SLC won the squash matches 7-6, all thanks to Reese Bain as she won her match 3-0.

The SLC first rugby team, the Honey Badgers, got off to a flying start, scoring three tries in 10 minutes due to the well-structured game plan. Josh de Goede controlled the game beautifully at fly-half and kept the backline on their toes.

The Man of the Match, Adam McGaffin, was in fantastic form and showed dominance in both attack and defense. The SLC first team won their match 31-8.

In netball, even though the results did not go SLC’s way, the teams are slowly catching up and the girls played great netball against Beaulieu.

The SLC u/15 team were most definitely the team of the weekend with a phenomenal 17-7 win. The first team played an exciting game, however they lost their match 27-20, regardless of their sheer determination.

McGaffin said despite the loss, this is their closest ever score to Beaulieu College, reflecting the progression in SLC’s netball.
