Relay through local mall a show of camaraderie for Youth Day

Savannah Mall in association with Shaun Otto from Polokwane Athletic Club hosted the second edition of the schools Youth Day relay, which took place in and around Savannah Mall on Friday evening.

POLOKWANE – Savannah Mall in association with Shaun Otto from Polokwane Athletic Club hosted the second edition of the schools Youth Day relay, which took place in and around Savannah Mall on Friday evening.

The relay started at 18:00 and finished at 20:00 and the objective of was to accumulate as many rounds as possible per team in the allocated time.

“This relay, along with the marketing of Savannah Mall, is purely held for the fun of it. Schools can enter 10 athletes per team at no cost, as well as teachers teams. Considering last year’s event, the race gained popularity, with more teams entering this year. In total, there were eight primary school teams, 12 entering from various high schools and four teachers teams,” said Otto.

Otto added that some shops in Savannah Mall sponsored prizes, which Otto said contributed hugely to the success of the relay.

Hoërskool Pietersburg won with Curro Heuwelkruin in second place and Tom Naudé High Technical School in third place.

The primary schools section saw Laerskool Pietersburg emerge as the winners. Second behind them was Laerskool Pietersburg-Oos and Pietersburg Comprehensive Primary School finished in third place.

The teachers of Hoërskool Pietersburg were the winners of the teachers teams category, while Laerskool Pietersburg’s teachers finished in second place.
