Nerves of steel win clash

Stanford Lake College (SLC) played cricket against Tom Naudé High School on Tom Naudé's home grounds in the city on Saturday.

POLOKWANE – Stanford Lake College (SLC) played cricket against Tom Naudé High School on Tom Naudé’s home grounds in the city on Saturday.

According to SLC marketer, Rona McGaffin, the day started with some light showers, but after the rain had stopped, SLC’s first team managed to play a 35-over game. They won the toss and decided to bowl first. Tom Naudé scored 236 for seven wickets in their 35 overs.

Jonty Brown, one of SLC’s best bowlers, took three wickets for 37 runs in his seven overs. SLC then went into bat, facing the tough task of needing to score over seven runs per over.

Conrad Schmidt soon took control of the match, scoring 91 runs and sharing in a partnership of over 100 runs with Fraser Thompson (an exchange student from Australia) who scored 48. Jonty Matthew Maritz finished off the match, successfully chasing down the required runs in 29 overs and winning by three wickets.

The u/15 team was able to play a 50-over game. SLC won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 270 all out. Christian Schmidt made a well played 90 runs, being strongly supported by Bryce Reed who scored 78 runs. Tom Naudé scored 218 all out in reply and lost the game, with Christian again rounding off a good game taking two wickets.
