Hollard Daredevil returns: Registrations now open

Register now for 2024 Hollard Daredevil Run to raise awareness for prostrate and testicular cancer.

POLOKWANE – Registrations are now open to run for cancer in your city, for the 2024 Hollard Daredevil Run.

The Hollard Daredevil Run, known for its bold mission and distinctive purple speedos, is set to return on November 1, raising crucial awareness about prostate and testicular cancer.

What began 15 years ago as a few brave souls running through traffic to spark conversation about cancer has since evolved into a national event spotlighting prostate and testicular cancers.

Joani Sadie, the corporate relationship manager at Cansa highlighted that in recent years, the Daredevil Run has expanded from a single event in Johannesburg to a nationwide phenomenon.

“The main event will once again take place at Zoo Lake, Johannesburg, with participants nationwide encouraged to run. Last year’s run saw one of the largest turnouts yet, with teams racing through other cities like Polokwane and even the Kruger National Park.”

Sadie added that coinciding with the launch of this year’s event was the handover of R700 000 raised from the 2023 run.

“The proceeds were presented to the Cansa and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of South Africa, aimed at supporting cancer testing.”

She explained that the corporate relationship manager at Cansa, highlighted the importance of these funds, saying that between January 2022 and March 2023, over 2 000 Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) blood tests were conducted thanks to the donations.

“PSA tests are crucial for early detection of prostate cancer, potentially saving lives with a simple, non-invasive procedure.”

Allistair Khanyi, the head of brand and communications at Hollard, emphasised the national impact of the Daredevil Run, which aims to foster a culture of open conversation about male cancers, their risks, symptoms and the significance of early detection.

“This cause is not only important to our business but is equally meaningful to our people as parents, brothers, sons, sisters, and daughters,” Khanyi said.

Last year’s event saw corporate teams, sports clubs and even game rangers donning purple speedos for the cause. Hollard encourages individuals, corporations, schools and communities to rally behind this year’s Daredevil Run and help ‘run cancer outta your hood’.

Entry tickets for the 2024 Hollard Daredevil Run are now available from Ticketpro.co.za at a cost of R180, which includes the courier of a registration pack and a complimentary purple speedo. For more information, go to daredevilrun.com.
