Polokwane man’s vision for SA’s young athletes

Herry Lamola's vision is to equip young athletes with the skills and confidence to succeed locally and globally.

POLOKWANE – Herry Lamola is a passionate young man with a clear mission: to help young athletes cultivate their talent in the sports sector while steering them away from negative influences. His goal is to encourage youth to focus on building their future through sport.

He firmly believes that by engaging in athletics after school, children can avoid getting involved in undesirable activities.

He is currently working towards reopening his sports academy.

“I’m still recruiting kids and waiting for permission from schools so that I can officially reopen my academy and help them participate in sport outside of school,” Lamola remarked.

He said it is important to train in athletics all year round, rather than limiting participation to the school season, which usually starts at the beginning of the year.

“I want them to understand that if they love something, they shouldn’t be afraid to chase it and live their dream. I especially want to help kids from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve their goals.”

At present, his team is seeking assistance in the form of sports equipment, including shoes and clothing, as they currently have none.

“We’re not necessarily asking for money, but any kind of help would be greatly appreciated,” Lamola said. “My dream is to see these kids become top athletes from South Africa, representing the nation on a global stage.”
