Magezi FC to play home matches at Seshego Stadium

The Seshego Stadium, which has been a hub for former elite clubs, will now be the home ground for Magezi FC for the 2024/2025 season.

POLOKWANE – Supporters of Magezi Football Club in Seshego and the surrounding areas will no longer have to travel far to watch their favourite team in action. Polokwane Municipality has announced that the Seshego Stadium will host Magezi FC’s home league matches during the 2024/2025 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.

The decision was confirmed during a recent municipal council meeting, marking a significant move for the area. The Seshego Stadium, which has been a hub for former elite clubs like Ria Stars, Winners Park, and City Pillars, will now be the home ground for Magezi FC.

The stadium is a well-known tourist attraction in the region, and this new development is expected to bring excitement and pride to the local community. The PSL season is set to kick off on September 14, and Magezi FC is eager to capitalise on their home ground advantage.

Mantlako Sebaka, the manager for sport and recreation at Polokwane Municipality, stated that the council approved Magezi FC’s request to partner with the municipality in hosting their home games in Polokwane for the upcoming season.

“Magezi Football Club will play most of their games at the revamped Seshego Stadium. The club was crowned NFD champions for the 2023/24 season and will now compete in the 2024/25 PSL elite league,” Sebaka said.

Abel Rakoma, the spokesperson for Magezi FC, expressed the club’s excitement about playing in front of their strong supporter base in Seshego.

“We are happy that we will be playing our home games at Seshego Stadium. Most of our supporters are from Seshego and Moletjie. This move will motivate the team,” Rakoma stated.

Local soccer fans are equally thrilled. Makgahlo Seropeng, a soccer supporter from Seshego, noted that the return of PSL games to the area is something they have been eagerly awaiting for years.

“I think it will also motivate young men in the area who have resorted to crime due to a lack of entertainment activities. There are a lot of young men who are just loitering and hanging at street corners doing nothing. Some of these young people are blessed with soccer talent. If they see their favourite soccer icons and idols up close, they will be more inspired. I mean, some of the players from the PSL team are local players, so when they see them in action, they will be more motivated,” Seropeng added.
